More than half of the movies ever made are love stories. And more than half of those are triangular love stories. The movie Dia is no different than this. Therefore I was naturally hesitant to see this movie. After all, how much more can you watch the same stuff over and again?  But after reading many rave reviews and after knowing that my cousin’s son is in the cinematography team of this movie, I had to watch this.

And believe me it was an awesome movie! Yes, there is nothing new in the film, but yet there was lot of freshness. The four main characters of the movie have once again shown that if you have great characters in the movie, you can turn any ordinary story into an extraordinary movie! The movie does have its lil surprises here and there, which stands apart from the other similar movies. I almost did not know any of the lead actors, but stunned by the performances. But hang on… the best part is that the movie did not have any negative character and yet had a content to hold the audience intrigued for 2 hours. The last movie with no negative characters that I remember was SRK’s ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’.

Prithvi Ambaar who plays the role of Adi is the turning point of the movie and it’s his character that brings the conflict. He is naturally pivotal to the story and the youngster has done a commendable job in the film. Dia played by Khushee, Lakki played by Pavithra Lokesh and Rohit played by Dheekshith have done equally well. The background music blends well along with cinematography into the story. There was a never a dull minute in the 135 minutes!

Time and again Kannada movie industry dishes out movie like ‘Dia’. No fanfare, no blaring sounds and sound track, no laangu, no machchu, no longhaired hero peeping through his hair in anger with blood in his fist, no big budget. . I urge people to watch and encourage such movies made by new comers. Only your encouragement can bring the best in the industry.

There is hope, there is despair, there is subtle humour sprinkled, there are punchy dialogues, there is love, there is hate, there is uncertainty, there is sense of duty, and most importantly there is a beautiful film to watch.   Thank you team Dia!

ಇದುವರೆಗೆ ಬಂದ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಧದಷ್ಟು ಚಿತ್ರಗಳು ಪ್ರೇಮಕಥಾ ವಸ್ತು ಉಳ್ಳವು, ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಬಹುತೇಕ ತ್ರಿಕೋನ ಪ್ರೇಮಕಥೆಗಳೇ. ‘ದಿಯಾ’ ಚಿತ್ರ ಕೂಡಾ ಇದೇ ರೀತಿಯದ್ದೇ! ಆದುದರಿಂದ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರ ನೋಡಲು ನಾನು ಹಿಂಜರಿದೆ. ಒಂದೇ ತರಹದ ಕಥೆಯ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಎಷ್ಟು ಅಂತ ನೋಡಬಹುದು? ಆದರೆ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಒಂದೊಂದೇ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆಗಳನ್ನು ಓದಿದ ನಂತರ ಮತ್ತು ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಛಾಯಗ್ರಹಣ ತಂಡದಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ಕಸಿನ್-ಅಕ್ಕನ ಮಗ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದಾಗ ದಿಯಾ ನೋಡುವ ತವಕ ಹುಟ್ಟಿತು.

ನೋಡಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರ ಬಹಳ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಯಿತು. ಹೌದು, ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸದೇನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೂ ತಾಜಾತನವಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳ ಪೋಷಣೆಯು ಒಂದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಅಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಚಿತ್ರವಾಗಿ ಹೇಗೆ ಪರಿವರ್ತಿಸುವುದು ಎಂದು ಕಲಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಪಾತ್ರಗಳೇ ಕಥೆಯ ಜೀವಾಳ. ಯಾವ ನಟ ನಟಿಯರೂ ನನಗೆ ಪರಿಚಿತವಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೂ ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಅವರ ಪಾತ್ರಾಭಿನಯವು ಮನ ಸೆಳೆಯಿತು. ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಗಮನೀಯ ಅಂಶವೆಂದರೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ನಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಕಥೆಯು ಎರಡು ಗಂಟೆ ಸಾಗಿದ್ದು. ವಿಲನ್/ನೆಗಟಿವ್ ಪಾತ್ರ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಚಿತ್ರಕಥೆ ಬರೆಯುವುದು ಬಹಳ ಕಷ್ಟದ ಮಾತು.

ಈ ಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಜೀವ ತುಂಬಿದ್ದೇ ಪೃಥ್ವಿ ಅಂಬರ್ ರವರ ‘ಆದಿ’ಯ ಪಾತ್ರ. ಈ ಪಾತ್ರದ ಪ್ರವೇಶದಿಂದಲೇ ಕಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಘರ್ಷ/ತಿರುವುಗಳು ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ, ಇದನ್ನು ಪೃಥ್ವಿ ಲೀಲಾಜಾಲವಾಗಿ ನಿಭಾಯಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಉತ್ತಮವಾಗಿ ಮೇಳೈಸಿದ ಖುಷಿಯ ‘ದಿಯಾ’ ಪಾತ್ರ, ಪವಿತ್ರ ಲೋಕೇಶ್ ರ ‘ಲಕ್ಕಿ’ ಪಾತ್ರ, ದೀಕ್ಷಿತ್ ರ ‘ರೋಹಿತ್’ ಪಾತ್ರ. ಈ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳ ಮುಗ್ಧತೆ ಆಗಾಗ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಎದ್ದು ಕಾಣುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆ ಸಂಗೀತ ಮತ್ತು ಛಾಯಾಗ್ರಹಣವೂ ಕಥೆಗೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗಿ ಸಾಗಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಅದ್ದೂರಿ ಸೆಟ್, ಅಬ್ಬರಿಯ ಹಾಡು-ಕುಣಿತ, ಲಾಂಗು-ಮಚ್ಚು ಹಿಡಿದು ರಕ್ತ ಕಾರುವ ನಾಯಕ, ಗೊಂದಲ ಕೊಡುವ ಕಥೆ ಇವುಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಸರಳ ಮತ್ತು ಸೃಜನಶೀಲ ಚಿತ್ರವಾಗಿ ‘ದಿಯಾ’ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಕಾಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಹೊಸ ಪ್ರಯೋಗ, ಹೊಸಬರ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸಬೇಕು.

‘ದಿಯಾ’ ಚಿತ್ರ ತಂಡಕ್ಕೆ ತುಂಬು ಹೃದಯದ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅಭಿನಂದನೆಗಳು.
